The term "viceroyalties" refers to the territories governed by a viceroy, an official who represents the monarch in a colonial region. This designation highlights the structure of colonial administration where viceroys held significant authority over vast regions on behalf of the sovereign. Viceroyalties were established during the Age of Exploration and Colonialism, particularly in Spanish and Portuguese empires, where they played a key role in managing colonial affairs, implementing laws, collecting taxes, and maintaining order.

In contrast, "audiencia" refers to a court established to administer justice in the colonies, and while it was an important part of colonial governance, it is not synonymous with the viceroy's office. "Governorship" generally pertains to the role of a governor, which can be distinct from a viceroy, who typically had broader powers and responsibilities. "Colonial Administration" is a broader term that encompasses various governing bodies and officials, including viceroys, but does not specifically identify the office or authority of a viceroy like "viceroyalties" does. Thus, the correct choice effectively encapsulates the relationship between the viceroy and the territories they governed.
